Today’s review comes to you from our whole family- we each wanted to choose these books for our own favorites. :)
The Tomten by Astrid Lindgren and The Animals’ Santa by Jan Brett
These books are similar but also quite different. We love Jan Brett’s ilustrations and the little stories going on in the side illustrations of her books. The Animals’ Santa tells the story of two snowshoe hare’s as they explore the idea of santa and what they believe is true. We love the gift choices that santa makes for each animal, and the anticipation builds as each animal finds their gift. Its a very sweet story and one that we have read repeatedly over the years.
The Tomten is a different kind of animal santa, and the book walks us through his nighttime visits to the animals on the farm, reassuring them that Winter will end and spring will come again. We have fond memories (all of us!) of making clay tomten ornaments as preschoolers so this book holds a special place in all of our hearts.
