Welcome to Honeybee Playschool! We start our day with free play and a chance to explore art materials and open ended toys. This gives every child the chance to ease into the day and no one ever feels like they missed something if they are a few minutes late.
We eat a snack together on the big rug while I read several picture books that are chosen by the class. The art projects for the week are often based on the books we read at snack time. The books are also springboards for imaginative play. After snack and reading we meet at the art table to either start a new project or continue to work on an ongoing activity. As children finish, they move back into free play until everyone is finished. This year, magnatiles, play dough, wooden blocks and stuffed animals seem to be most engaging. We eat lunch together and head outside to play until school ends.
We often have guest teachers at Honeybee, usually for dance and music. We also take several field trips throughout the year as well as 4 sessions of pottery instruction with Liz Lewis at her studio. Even the most reluctant artists end up participating joyfully at Honeybee!
My passion is arts education, thus the curriculum at Honeybee is arts-based. I work with children to help them develop their social and emotional skills that are helpful to be ready for kindergarten. I also firmly believe in the power of play, and make sure to have plenty of structured and unstructured playtime, both indoors and out, every day.
My degrees in elementary and arts education as well as my work history have given me the experience and skills necessary to provide high quality education in a preschool setting. From running the Seattle Children’s Museum’s after school art program, to writing arts curriculum based on children’s literature and facilitating art classes for children with disabilities, I have years and years of experience caring for children. Using my knowledge of early childhood education, my experience as a parent and my love of art and creativity, I have created a preschool that will nurture your child and instill confidence and love of learning.
Please let me know if you have questions or would like to schedule a school visit!
