Last Stop on the Reindeer Express by Maudie Powell-Tuck, Illustrated by Karl James Mountford & Little Mouse’s Christmas by Riikka Jantti
The illustrations in these two books really set them apart from other holiday books in our stack.
Last Stop on the Reindeer Express is a favorite in the preschool and early elementary set, partly because of the cut-outs and doors and flaps to open. It is a story of a girl, a magical mailbox, and holiday wishes coming true. It is magical, beautiful and even though we have to take turns opening flaps and doors, it really is a joy to read together.
Little Mouse’s Christmas is a little book about a mouse that is having trouble waiting until Christmas. He is excited about all the activities and traditions and just wants Christmas to come NOW! There is something very appealing about a holiday book with a mouse as the main character, we have plenty of them on our list of favorites. The Scandinavian style of the illustrations (the author is Finnish) also adds to the interest and intrigue. I’ve had preschool classes request this book daily! It is not available from Bookshop.org, so ask your local bookstore to order it for you! While you’re at it, you could order a couple other books in this series as well!
