We love to use a raffle ticket approach to things around here. We write chores on slips of paper and put them in a basket, drawing one slip out at a time to work together to get the house clean and tidy. We write ideas for screen-free summer time fun on slips of paper for inspiration to pass the time.
This morning we wrote drawing prompts on paper and had a great time pulling them out of the basket and drawing together. If you have a sketchbook or a stack of blank (or lined) paper, this is a great quiet time or family time activity!
Here are some ways we use the prompts:
Use the word as a starting point for a drawing in a notebook or sketchbook
Add a drawing to an existing drawing or large collaborative drawing or poster
Use the word to start a story that is written and illustrated
Use the word to inspire a completely different idea
Act out the word like charades
Use the words like Pictionary and try to guess what is being drawn
Use the words to tell a collaborative story
There are no wrong ways to do this! Sometimes my kids pull a word from the basket and don’t want to draw it, so they choose another. Thats fine! If you try this, let me know! I’d love to hear how it works for you.
